MPSI reports alleged incitement to oust president to police
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Merah Putih Stratejik Indonesia (MPSI) has reported an alleged incitement to overthrow the President outside constitutional mechanisms to law enforcement authorities, as an effort to ensure that democratic practices continue to operate according to the rules.
MPSI Executive Director Noor Azhari stated in Jakarta on Friday that the report was submitted to investigators at the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency on Thursday (9/4), accompanied by several pieces of evidence, including transcripts of statements.
He emphasised that democracy must be conducted within the framework of applicable law and constitution.
“Democracy must not stray from the constitutional track. Criticism is legitimate, but changes in leadership must go through the mechanisms provided,” he said.
According to him, the report refers to a YouTube channel broadcast containing statements deemed not merely political criticism, but rather an incitement outside state procedures.
Noor Azhari assessed that this could disrupt public order and government stability if not addressed seriously.
He stressed that the mechanism for dismissing the President is clearly regulated in the constitution.
“The 1945 Constitution clearly regulates the mechanism for dismissing the President through the DPR, the Constitutional Court, and the MPR as stipulated in Articles 7A and 7B. If there is any push to shift this mechanism to street pressure, it is certainly an unlawful act and falls under the category of rebellion,” he said.
In its report, MPSI also refers to several provisions in Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code that are deemed relevant to the alleged violation.
Nevertheless, Noor Azhari clarified that the legal steps taken are not intended to restrict freedom of expression, but to ensure that democratic practices remain constitutional.
“Democracy must remain constitutional; no one in this country should casually undermine the democracy of this nation,” he said.
He added that this step is expected to strengthen law enforcement while maintaining the stability of the democratic system in accordance with constitutional principles.
