MPs and BPKH educate public on Hajj fund management
Cirebon, West Java — A member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Selly Andriany Gantina, together with the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), provided the public in Cirebon with an explanation of the management and transparency of the Hajj funds through the dissemination of Law No. 34 of 2014. ‘We, together with BPKH, conducted activities in Cirebon to disseminate Law No. 34 of 2014, and to promote transparency in hajj fund management to the audience,’ she said in Cirebon on Wednesday. The activity, she added, aimed to increase financial literacy in Cirebon regarding hajj governance so that it is more open and accountable. Selly noted that information openness is key to building the trust of pilgrims in the management of Hajj funds by the relevant institutions. She hopes that through the forum, BPKH can answer public questions to the fullest so that there is no doubt about the mechanisms of hajj fund management. In addition, she stressed that input from participants will serve as a basis for evaluation by Commission VIII of the DPR and BPKH to improve policies in the future. Furthermore, she said, strengthening public understanding is part of the government’s efforts to build a Hajj economic ecosystem being developed by the government. ‘The reforms to be implemented will truly provide better services in the administration of the Hajj body,’ she said. She explained that BPKH is developing regulatory strengthening to enlarge its capacity to manage the hajj funds, without reducing the principles of transparency and sound governance. ‘We are developing laws that will further strengthen our capacity in the context of management, without reducing transparency and our ability to create greater value for the Hajj pilgrims,’ she said. BPKH is committed to optimising the development of the Hajj funds to support improvements in operational Hajj services in the current year and the coming year.
