MPR urges government to ensure smooth 2026 Hajj implementation amid rising flight costs
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Wahid said this year’s Hajj roll-out will be the first under the ministry and is taking place amid global dynamics affecting rising flight costs.
“The main focus of the ministry must be to ensure the smooth implementation of the 2026 Hajj,” he said.
He also praised the working meeting between DPR Commission VIII, the minister, and the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), which agreed on an additional Rp1.7 trillion for Hajj implementation costs.
According to him, the policy is aimed to ensure that increases in aviation fuel prices will not be borne by pilgrims but covered by the state in accordance with the regulations.
He said the policy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment, urging the ministry to coordinate with relevant institutions to ensure proper Hajj implementation.
Wahid also noted that the parliament called for the government to not only cover international flight cost increases but also pay attention to domestic travel costs for pilgrims from their regions to embarkation points.
Pilgrims from eastern Indonesia, including Maluku and Papua, as well as Bali and East Nusa Tenggara, require special attention to avoid additional financial burdens, he added.
He pointed out that these concerns have been included in the meeting’s conclusions, including calls for coordination between the ministry and regional governments.
He also stressed the importance of technical readiness, including baggage distribution, accommodation in Saudi Arabia, and logistics support.
Regarding the “Hajj ticket war” discourse, he said it requires comprehensive study and is not a current priority.
