MPR supports government efforts to defuse US-Iran conflict
Jakarta — The Speaker of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, has voiced support for the government’s efforts to defuse the conflict between the United States and Iran following the recent mutual military strikes that occurred earlier.
“If this can be achieved, I believe Indonesia’s role in reducing tensions in the Middle East would be commendable,” said Muzani when met at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Central Jakarta on Monday.
According to Muzani, Indonesia bears responsibility for creating world peace, as this principle is enshrined in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.
The efforts to reconcile the conflict could be pursued through various means, he stated, including high-level diplomatic channels between nations.
Muzani noted that steps to resolve the conflict must be carefully considered. He expressed confidence that President Prabowo Subianto had weighed all considerations before deciding to mediate between the two countries.
“Hopefully this can be achieved, but we must observe developments and the situation,” Muzani explained.
Previously, Israel launched attacks against Iran on 28 February 2026. Among the strikes, the United States and Israel fired seven rockets that struck Tehran near the residence of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Subsequently, Iran launched rocket attacks against Israel and several other targets in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that President Prabowo Subianto is prepared to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring conducive security conditions.
On 1 March 2026, the Iranian government confirmed the death of Ali Khamenei and announced a 40-day mourning period and a week-long work suspension.
