MPR Speaker: Indonesia's Joining Board of Peace a Bold Diplomatic Move, Vital for Gaza Peace
MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani has assessed Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) as a form of diplomatic courage, stating that the country’s involvement in the body represents an important step towards peace in Gaza.
“Our participation in the BoP is, I believe, one of the important elements for peace in Palestine, including in Gaza. The people of Gaza are now grateful for the peace, enabling them to enjoy this Ramadan,” Muzani said at the Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School in West Jakarta on Sunday evening (22/2/2026).
Muzani assessed that the plan to rebuild Gaza constitutes a concrete effort to liberate Palestine from Israel. This breakthrough, he said, also enhances Indonesia’s reputation on the international stage.
“This is certainly an extraordinary diplomatic effort. We are grateful for the courage in diplomacy shown by President Prabowo under his administration. This step can become something to be proud of,” he stated.
Furthermore, Muzani also responded to a number of agreements recently signed between Indonesia and the United States. He reacted positively, noting that several aspects would benefit Indonesia.
“If we look at what President Prabowo achieved during his trip to Washington, it is very good and encouraging, because firstly, for example, there will be planned investment from America across various industrial sectors with considerable value,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto reiterated his optimism regarding developments in humanitarian and peace efforts in Gaza following the inaugural meeting of the BoP, or Security Council. He emphasised the need for determination to achieve peace in Palestine.
“Alhamdulillah, it went well and smoothly. We can see the progress that has been achieved,” Prabowo said in a press statement with media in Washington DC on Thursday (19/2) local time.
Prabowo noted that significant progress had been made, particularly in the distribution of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. He also affirmed that the flow of food aid and basic necessities for the Gazan population is currently at its highest level in recent years.
“I believe the flow of food aid and necessities for the people of Gaza is at its highest in several years. So food is sufficient, and other necessities are flowing in abundantly,” he added.
Nevertheless, Prabowo cautioned that various challenges still lie ahead. According to him, efforts to achieve peace require strong determination and vigilance against various obstacles.
Beyond that, he also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment, alongside other Muslim nations, to pursuing lasting peace for the Palestinian people. “But yes, we must be determined to achieve success for the people of Palestine. We are certainly committed. Earlier, several Muslim nations all reaffirmed our commitment to truly achieving lasting peace,” he continued.
President Prabowo’s commitment simultaneously reinforces the consistency of Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy that sides with humanity, positioning Indonesia as a strategic partner in efforts to create just and sustainable peace in the Middle East.
