MPR Secretary-General Considers Civil Service Sanctions for Quiz Competition Judges Amid Controversy
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The MPR RI is opening the possibility of imposing administrative civil service sanctions on the judges of the Empat Pilar Quiz Competition (LCC) at the West Kalimantan level, which came under scrutiny following the judging controversy in the final round.
MPR RI Secretary-General Siti Fauziah stated that her office is still studying the potential for other administrative sanctions against the judges, referring to the regulations of the State Civil Service Agency (BKN). This is because the judges hold the status of civil servants (ASN).
“So, the sanction for the judges is one that has already been conveyed, deactivating them from the 2026 Cerdas Cermat competition activities. That has been conveyed; that sanction will be given,” Siti said during a press conference at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
On that occasion, MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani also confirmed that the two judges in question had been summoned and reprimanded by MPR leadership.
“We summoned them earlier. We have reprimanded them,” Muzani said.
When asked whether the judges would receive administrative sanctions, Muzani said the matter is still being studied further.
“That is being studied by the Secretary-General; it is under study,” Muzani stated.
“Yes, there will be that; there is a process that I need to study,” he added.
“The Quiz Competition at the West Kalimantan level, the final of which we will re-hold at a time to be decided as soon as possible,” Muzani said.
According to him, the decision was taken after MPR leadership heard explanations from the MPR Secretary-General regarding the controversy that occurred in the Empat Pilar LCC final in West Kalimantan.
Muzani acknowledged shortcomings and oversights in the competition’s organisation, particularly in the final session.
“In the West Kalimantan case, we thank all the inputs, and we all understand there were shortcomings, limitations, and oversights in that organisation,” he said.
Muzani also assured that MPR leadership would directly oversee the re-held competition from start to finish.
