MPR member urges Banyumas women to understand four pillars of nationhood
Purwokerto — An Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) member, Siti Mukaromah, has called on women in Banyumas regency, Central Java, to understand and strengthen the values of the Four Pillars of Nationhood as a foundation for maintaining national unity and enhancing civic engagement within society.
“Today, I, alongside friends from Perempuan Bangsa in Banyumas regency, am conducting a programme to strengthen the four fundamental pillars of the state so that this understanding can be conveyed to all layers of society, including women at the district and village levels,” Siti Mukaromah said during the Four Pillars Strengthening activity at the Deputy Regent’s Official Residence in Purwokerto, Banyumas regency, on Wednesday afternoon.
She stated that the four pillars of nationhood, comprising Pancasila, the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia of 1945, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, constitute the basic consensus in national and state life that must continue to be disseminated to the public.
According to her, women hold an important role in strengthening national values within both family and community environments. Through proper understanding of these four pillars, women are expected to be able to instil values of unity, tolerance, and patriotic spirit in young generations.
“Women also bear a significant responsibility in preparing future generations of national leaders. Therefore, strengthening national outlook is considered important so that young people grow with strong character and commitment to the nation and state,” said the member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives.
Beyond the dissemination of the four pillars, the activity also included discussions and strengthening of the organisational structure of Perempuan Bangsa as an autonomous body of the National Awakening Party (PKB).
In this forum, participants discussed various strategic issues related to women’s role in community development.
“Women are expected to be at the forefront in maintaining a safe and comfortable social order, whilst also contributing to building a better society,” said the legislator representing Electoral District Central Java VIII (Banyumas and Cilacap).
According to her, women face numerous challenges today, ranging from strengthening family roles, educating young people, to safeguarding public mental health.
She believes that strengthening the mental resilience of teenagers and the community is also an important focus that needs to be addressed collectively through various social and community activities.
As part of these activities, participants also held a communal fast-breaking meal as an opportunity to strengthen bonds and enhance fellowship among cadres and community members.
“They also distributed food (takjil) to community members working on the roads, such as becak drivers, security officers, and other workers who had not yet prepared food for breaking the fast,” she said.
The woman, commonly known as Erma, stated that this sharing activity represented a form of empathy and concern for those still working as the time for breaking the fast approached.
According to her, the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan provides an opportunity for all parties to increase activities that benefit others, whilst also strengthening the value of togetherness within society.
She expressed hope that the four pillars dissemination activity attended by women in Banyumas regency would strengthen patriotic spirit, mutual cooperation, and increase the public’s love for the nation and state.
“We hope there is sharing of knowledge, insights, and understanding so that togetherness and community commitment to the nation remains built,” said Erma.
