MPR Leader Confident Subsidised LPG and Fuel Prices Will Not Rise Following Russian Supply
Jakarta - Wakil Ketua MPR RI Eddy Soeparno is convinced that prices of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG will not increase, following the addition of energy supplies from Russia.
“Up to now, the government has committed to availability and affordability,” said Eddy when met at the DPR RI Building on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
He stated that stocks of subsidised BBM and gas melons - the term for 3kg subsidised LPG - are not experiencing shortages.
“Availability means the products are present and accessible. Affordability means there will be no price changes, especially for subsidised BBM, whether for transportation vehicles or for household 3kg LPG,” he continued.
According to Eddy, this policy is important for maintaining public purchasing power amid global energy market dynamics.
“So I think this is a very good policy for safeguarding public purchasing power,” he said.
Eddy explained that the current global energy market tends towards a seller’s market, where energy-producing countries have significant control over prices, volumes, and distribution.
“So whoever owns the oil has the right to determine the price, the volume, and to whom they sell,” he stated.
“With the supply and provision now guaranteed, I think we can say we’ve entered a safe zone. Hopefully, it will continue like this,” he concluded.
It was previously reported that the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that Indonesia will receive supplies of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia.
This is the result of his meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev on Tuesday (14/4/2026) in Moscow, Russia, following high-level discussions between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin the day before.
Bahlil said that in the joint forum with Sergey, both sides discussed concrete opportunities for energy cooperation that can be immediately followed up, particularly ensuring supplies of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG.
Russia has expressed readiness to support Indonesia’s energy resilience, including supplies of oil and natural gas as well as storage.
