MPR Chairman's Remarks on Accelerating IKN Development
Penajam Paser Utara - MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani has stressed that accelerating the development of the Nusantara Capital (IKN) in parts of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, is vital to ensure the relocation of the government centre proceeds according to targets.
“Accelerating development is a key factor so that the relocation of the government centre can proceed according to the stages set by the government,” said Ahmad Muzani during his inspection of IKN development in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Monday.
The readiness of basic infrastructure such as road access, utility networks, and transportation connectivity will determine the smooth operation of state institutions in Indonesia’s new capital.
He acknowledged that construction progress shows significant acceleration compared to his last visit at the end of 2024, as several government facilities have entered the completion stage, including office areas, places of worship, and basic infrastructure.
The presence of all three branches of power in IKN, he explained, is important to ensure that government functions run completely and interconnected.
Accelerating development demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring IKN functions as a complete government centre, and it is hoped that the consistency of the work can be maintained so that the full operational target in 2028 can be achieved.
The government targets the gradual relocation of state institutions along with the completion of government facilities, he said, covering the preparation of ministry buildings, legislative institutions, judicial institutions, and supporting infrastructure for government activities.
“The MPR is ready to follow the planned stages, especially once the facilities needed by state institutions are available and can be used optimally,” he added.
After inspecting the legislative area, Ahmad Muzani and his MPR entourage viewed the progress of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Palace construction, as well as several other supporting facilities, including public service areas and open spaces.
