JAKARTA – The Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, has proposed that the Indonesian government consider withdrawing TNI soldiers who are part of the Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This comes in the wake of the escalation of Israeli attacks that have claimed the lives of TNI personnel.

“In accordance with the constitution which mandates the protection of the entire nation and Indonesian blood, Indonesia should withdraw its troops from that peacekeeping mission because this is a dangerous area for the safety of the TNI, as has occurred in southern Lebanon,” said Muzani at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (31/3/2026).

Muzani assessed that the protection of citizens’ lives, including serving soldiers, is the highest constitutional mandate. According to the former Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party’s DPP, the southern Lebanon region has now become a highly dangerous zone for the safety of TNI personnel who are part of the Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL Task Force.

“That is why the MPR feels the need to convey this view to the public,” stated Muzani.

He explained that if there is no definite security guarantee for TNI personnel under the UNIFIL auspices, the government should not hesitate to take evacuation steps. That policy is to protect the lives of soldiers in the field.

“If there is no safety guarantee for our peacekeeping mission troops who are peacekeeping forces, then the MPR requests that the government consider withdrawing all troops in southern Lebanon in accordance with the constitution, namely safeguarding the safety of its citizens,” said Muzani.
