MP: TNI Deployment to Lebanon Must Be Supported by Adequate Intelligence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Amelia Anggraini, assessed that the deployment of new TNI soldiers to Lebanon for duty in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission must be supported by adequate intelligence information to minimise safety risks.
She stated that the deployment of TNI soldiers to the UNIFIL mission is part of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace. Therefore, there should not be any more TNI soldiers who fall in battle as happened some time ago.
“We in Commission I of the DPR RI support the government’s steps, particularly the Ministry of Defence and the TNI, to participate in UN world peacekeeping missions,” said Amelia in Jakarta on Friday.
According to her, the security dynamics at the Israel-Lebanon border remain highly volatile and require ongoing monitoring and periodic evaluation of threat levels in the field.
The TNI, she said, must ensure that all soldiers assigned to the mission are equipped with rules of engagement, force protection procedures, capabilities to face asymmetric attacks, as well as support from defence equipment and systems.
Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed that Indonesia will send 780 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on 22 May 2026.
“The date is 22 (May 2026) as planned. (Numbering) 780 personnel (TNI soldiers departing for UNIFIL),” said Sugiono when met after a joint press statement between Indonesia and Singapore in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5).
