Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg), Habib Syarief Muhammad, has reminded the government to promptly prepare derivative regulations for the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT). According to Habib, the derivative regulations for UU PPRT, whether in the form of government regulations (PP), ministerial regulations (permen), or other technical regulations, are crucially important to be issued soon so that the implementation of the law can run effectively. “Without derivative regulations, this law will be difficult to implement optimally. Therefore, we ask the government to complete all implementing regulations this year so that the benefits of UU PPRT can soon be felt by domestic workers throughout Indonesia,” he said in Jakarta on Friday. Furthermore, Habib reminded that there is still about seven months left to prepare those implementing regulations. The House of Representatives, particularly Baleg, he said, will continue to monitor the preparation of the derivative regulations so that the protection spirit contained in UU PPRT can be realised concretely. Habib views the enactment of UU PPRT as a tangible form of the state’s presence in providing juridical recognition of the dignity, honour, and rights of domestic workers who have previously not received adequate legal protection. The legislator from the West Java I electoral district also emphasised that UU PPRT is not merely a regulation governing the employment relationship between domestic workers and employers, but also a concrete implementation of Pancasila values, particularly the fifth principle, namely social justice for all Indonesian people. “The enactment of UU PPRT is a victory for humanity and Indonesian legal civilisation. After a long wait, the state is finally present to provide legal recognition to domestic workers. This is not just about work relations, but about respect for human dignity,” he stated. He also conveyed a message to the public that the existence of UU PPRT must be understood as a protection instrument that provides legal certainty for both parties, both workers and employers, so that a social harmony based on respect for human rights can be created.
