MP Claims Parliament Not Delaying Discussion of Election Law Revision
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Muhammad Khozin, a member of the House of Representatives’ Commission II, claimed that Parliament has never delayed discussions on the revision of the General Elections Law (RUU Pemilu). “We also wish to convey to the public that it is untrue that the DPR is currently at a standstill or holding or pending (delaying) discussions on the Election Law,” said Khozin during a virtual discussion titled “Countering the Tide of Centralisation: Challenging the Election Law from the Frontline of Regional Autonomy”, on Thursday (7/5/2026). Khozin provided an explanation to refute public criticism alleging that the DPR is withholding or delaying discussions on the RUU Pemilu. This PKB politician revealed that the DPR RI is currently tasking the Council Expertise Agency (BKD) to conduct simulations related to the revision of the Election Law. In recent months, said Khozin, the DPR has also invited several relevant parties on electoral matters. Khozin stated that Commission II of the DPR has held public hearings (RDPU) up to working meetings (raker) with dozens of figures from academics to observers in the electoral field. According to him, every input, suggestion, and criticism that emerged in those discussions has been accommodated for discussion in the revision of the Election Law. Through that discussion, he assured that public participation can truly have an impact, both in the short term and long term. For Khozin, the revision of the Election Law will be carried out in reference to the spirit of the 1998 reform. “Because, after all, succession in our electoral competition greatly determines the direction of development, how the direction of our state system will be carried out for 5 years, 10 years, and future periods,” he said.
