JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Abdullah, believes that the actions of debt collectors who create fake orders for ambulances and fire services (damkar) to visit debtors’ homes must be processed legally. Abdullah assesses that this has the potential to endanger public safety. In particular, there was a viral case of debt collectors deceiving ambulance services in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), and fire services in Semarang, Central Java, to visit debtors’ homes. “Those debt collectors must be imprisoned because they have endangered many lives,” said Abdullah in his statement on Friday (24/4/2026). The same applies to fire services; Abdullah stated that fire teams play a very important role in responding to fires and saving lives. “In other words, those debt collectors have been playing with public safety and lives by deceiving ambulances and fire services for debt collection. This case must not be ignored and allowed to recur,” he said. He encouraged that the identities of the perpetrators and the parties employing them must also be investigated. “The aim, besides prosecuting criminally or imposing strict sanctions on the debt collectors, is also so that ambulance and fire service parties can claim compensation from the employing parties,” he explained. Furthermore, he highlighted that violations in debt collection practices by debt collectors continue to recur, including intimidation, violence, and forcible vehicle seizures on the road. With the ongoing prevalence of misbehaving debt collectors, he believes that the governance of third-party debt collection systems regulated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has not been running effectively. “The OJK seems to be allowing this situation, not stopping debt collector practices, but also not yet able to prevent debt collection violations that break the law,” said Abdullah. The individuals making these fake requests are suspected to be from online loans (pinjol).
