MP Berates Police Generals Over Teachers Paid Rp 100,000 per Hour
JAKARTA - A member of DPR Commission III, Safaruddin, became furious upon hearing that teachers at the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are paid only Rp 100,000 per hour and reprimanded the police generals who instead laughed.
Safaruddin’s anger erupted during a Commission III DPR meeting with Acting Head of the Polri Education and Training Agency (Lemdiklat), Inspector General Andi Rian Djajadi, and Governor of the Police Academy (Akpol), Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026).
“How much is the pay? Rp 100,000 for one hour of teaching. Like Rp 5 million for one hour or something. Hey, don’t laugh. You’re educating police officers,” said Safaruddin.
Safaruddin stated that Lemdiklat must take responsibility if any police officers deviate, such as becoming drug lords.
Safaruddin conveyed that police trained by Lemdiklat should not become a burden to Polri.
Moreover, Polri reform starts from recruitment.
He also alluded to cases of police involved in drugs.
Then, Safaruddin highlighted the many instances of violence still occurring at Akpol and SPN (Police Education Centres).
Additionally, there was a case of an Akpol female cadet suffering a stroke. Safaruddin suspects that the cadet was actually a placement or paid for admission, as those who pass to Akpol are certainly healthy.
“I see that Akpol has someone expelled, one person for deviant behaviour. There’s also a stroke case with a female cadet. This shouldn’t happen. It means the recruitment is wrong. The recruitment is wrong. Paid or placed? Paid or placed? So Lemdiklat processes that do not meet health standards,” said the retired Polri general.
Then, Safaruddin alluded to the phenomenon where problematic police are usually transferred to Lemdiklat.
When problematic police are moved to Lemdiklat, Safaruddin worries they might confide in students instead of focusing on teaching.
“So if there are problematic people in Criminal Investigation, in Traffic, just put them in Lemdiklat. This is chaotic. So in Lemdiklat, it’s not teaching. Confiding to the students. ‘Wow, I was wronged like this and that’,” he said.
“He sees his friend in Criminal Investigation, one cough gets Rp 1 billion. This is pitiful, Sir, in an educational institution,” he added.
For this reason, Safaruddin requested that the welfare of police at Lemdiklat be improved.
He claimed he would speak with the National Police Chief and Deputy National Police Chief regarding the situation at Lemdiklat.
