Mountains of Rubbish Pile Up at Temporary Waste Site in Bandung During Eid Holiday
Mountains of rubbish are piling up at the temporary waste disposal site (TPS) in Babakan Ciparay, Bandung City, West Java, during the Eid holiday of 1447 Hijriah on Monday (23/3/2026). The disposal of waste to the Sarimukti landfill in Bandung Barat Regency is constrained by limited quotas.
Observations by Republika showed that the piles of rubbish are mounting up to the roadside. Those passing by the road are forced to cover their noses due to the pungent smell.
Several officers were seen loading rubbish into bins to be placed into waste trucks. The waste trucks will transport the rubbish to the Sarimukti landfill in Bandung Barat Regency.
Several motorbike riders were observed dumping bagged rubbish at the temporary site.
Coordinator of the Temporary TPS Babakan Ciparay, Yusuf, stated that the limited quota for waste disposal to the Sarimukti landfill in Bandung Barat Regency and the fleet have made waste collection at the TPS irregular. As a result, rubbish is still piling up at the Babakan Ciparay TPS.
“Since Eid, the trucks have only just arrived now to collect the rubbish,” he said when met at the location on Monday (23/3/2026).
He explained that the rubbish being transported is relatively new. Meanwhile, the old accumulated rubbish will be transported gradually later.
In the previous year, Yusuf said that waste collection before Eid was carried out very quickly. He requested several trucks and tippers be provided. However, this time it is relatively reduced.
