Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, erupted again this morning at 07:47 Wita (Western Indonesian Time).

Herman Yoseph Mboro, an observer at the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Observation Post, stated that the volcano, which maintains a Level III Alert status, erupted with an observed ash column height of approximately 1,000 metres above the summit, or roughly 2,584 metres above sea level.

During the eruption, the ash column displayed a grey colouration with thick intensity directed towards the south-west and west.

“This eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimetres and a duration of approximately 2 minutes 28 seconds,” Herman said in an official statement on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

Herman urged residents in the vicinity of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki as well as visitors and tourists to refrain from any activities within a 5-kilometre radius of the eruption centre.

Additionally, residents were asked to remain calm and follow instructions from local government authorities and not to believe unclear sources of information.

“Residents near Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki should be alert to the potential for rainfall lahar floods on rivers originating from the summit of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in the event of heavy rainfall, particularly in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru and Nawakote,” he added.

Residents affected by ash fall were also advised to wear masks or cover their nose and mouth to avoid the dangers of volcanic ash to the respiratory system.
