Mount Arjuno in East Java was hit by another forest and land fire on Friday (16 October) night. The incident was captured in an amateur video by a member of the public and widely shared on social media.

The footage shows a long stretch of reddish flames burning along the slopes of Arjuno. The fire was also clearly visible from the Malang toll gate.

Satriyo Nurseno, head of the emergency and logistics division at the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), confirmed that the fire had broken out on Mount Arjuno.

“[The forest and land fire] is on Mount Arjuno,” Satriyo told CNNIndonesia.com when asked to confirm the incident.

Satriyo said it was not yet known exactly when the fire first started or how much land on Mount Arjuno had been affected.

He added that teams from the Tahura (Grand Forest Park) and BPBD personnel had set off for the site to fight the fire.

“The Tahura team has already moved out, and BPBD personnel are also heading to the location,” he said.
