MoU Signed, PT Berdikari Accelerates Integrated Chicken Downstreaming
A concrete step to strengthen food sovereignty and ensure equitable access to animal protein continues to be rolled out. PT Berdikari (Persero), part of the State-Owned Food Holding (ID FOOD), officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic partnership with three regional governments at Hotel Bidakara, Jakarta.
This major synergy brings together the Gorontalo Provincial Government, the Boalemo Regency Government, and the Bima Regency Government (West Nusa Tenggara), with full support from ID FOOD and Danantara Indonesia. The collaboration serves as a solution to food distribution inequality, given that over 60 percent of livestock product consumption is currently concentrated in the Greater Jakarta area. Through this logistical interconnection, the abundant livestock potential in Gorontalo and Bima will be integrated to supply market needs on Java Island.
The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, Dr. Agung Suganda, stressed that this integrated chicken downstreaming programme is a direct mandate from the President that must move quickly. “This investment must be aimed at helping, nurturing, and scaling up the businesses of smallholder farmers so they have price certainty in the market,” Agung stated.
PT Berdikari’s President Director, Maryadi, added that the MoU’s primary focus is to build a livestock ecosystem that humanises farmers from upstream to downstream. “Our ultimate goal is not just production figures, but how this animal protein self-sufficiency goes hand in hand with faster and more sustainable regional economic growth,” Maryadi said.
As a concrete follow-up to the MoU, a detailed road map has been prepared. It includes the construction of an integrated breeding unit—from Grand Parent Stock (GPS) in East Java, Parent Stock (PS), to Final Stock (FS)—as well as an independent feed mill with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per month, based on local agricultural potential.
Full commitment also came from the regional leaders. The Governor of Gorontalo expressed readiness to expedite the processing of Land Management Rights (HPL) to clarify the status of provincial land. “This industrialisation programme has been long awaited by our community,” he said warmly.
Similarly, a representative from the Bima regional government hoped that on-the-ground coordination could immediately kick off. The programme is particularly anticipated to support the supply of quality protein for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which is currently in high demand in the region.
Through food balance calculations, this synergy is projected to generate collective meat production of up to 1.6 million tonnes. This figure surpasses the projected real national demand, with the surplus to be jointly managed by ID FOOD to maintain price stability and the supply of staple food for all Indonesian families in the long term.
