Jakarta (ANTARA) - Motorola Indonesia has provided its response regarding the phenomenon of limited global stock of memory components due to high demand from the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, which is impacting gadget prices in the market. Country Head of Motorola Indonesia, Bagus Prasetyo, explained that the memory shortage is a problem currently faced by the technology industry, and its effects are felt by every brand in Indonesia. “Motorola sees this existing problem as a real issue in the market and one faced by every brand in Indonesia,” said Bagus in South Jakarta on Monday. “As we know, Lenovo is an IT-based company, a provider of servers, laptops, and manufacturing for extremely large databases. So far, we have not felt or been directly affected by the insufficient supply (of memory),” Bagus stated. Nevertheless, Motorola Indonesia does not deny that price adjustments from time to time are still necessary. “Currently, the priority for supply chain fulfilment is on the AI industry, and certainly other supporting industries will follow what is happening in the market at present,” said Bagus. It is known that AI infrastructure projects require a very large amount of memory, making supplies for consumer devices (PCs, laptops, mobile phones) scarce and prices to surge dramatically since mid-2025, predicted to continue into 2026. Currently, memory costs are taking up an increasingly large portion of the total production costs (Bill of Materials/BOM). Therefore, many brands are starting to consider lowering specifications so that selling prices remain affordable.
