Motorists tried in S. Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Judge A. Rasyid Noor of the South Jakarta
District Court presided over the trial of 667 traffic offenders
in South Jakarta mayoralty yesterday.
According to police, 310 cases came from city police
headquarters while the other 357 cases came from South Jakarta
police.
Under the new law enforcement system on selected roads,
offenders are required to appear in court to be fined. The fine
scale is harsh for motorists, with the maximum fine set at Rp 6
million (US$2726).
Police said that 134 of the total 667 cases were involved
motorists who had violated traffic regulations in the a selected
zone.
The punishments handed down by judge Rasyid ranged from Rp
25,000, for a jaywalker, to Rp 300,000, for a bus driver who
ignored traffic signs. (mas)
