Rasyid Noor of the South Jakarta<br>\nDistrict Court presided over the trial of 667 traffic offenders<br>\nin South Jakarta mayoralty yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, 310 cases came from city police<br>\nheadquarters while the other 357 cases came from South Jakarta<br>\npolice.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new law enforcement system on selected roads,<br>\noffenders are required to appear in court to be fined. The fine<br>\nscale is harsh for motorists, with the maximum fine set at Rp 6<br>\nmillion (US$2726).<\/p>\n<p>Police said that 134 of the total 667 cases were involved<br>\nmotorists who had violated traffic regulations in the a selected<br>\nzone.<\/p>\n<p>The punishments handed down by judge Rasyid ranged from Rp<br>\n25,000, for a jaywalker, to Rp 300,000, for a bus driver who<br>\nignored traffic signs.
