A young motorcyclist struck a pedestrian, resulting in the victim’s death, on Jalan Wonosari, west of the PDAM office in Kalangan, Baturetno, Banguntapan, Bantul. Police discovered medication at the scene believed to belong to the motorcyclist. Bantul Police spokesperson Iptu Rita Hidayanto stated that the accident occurred when the motorcycle, with registration number AB 4769 UV, was travelling from east to west at 1.20am. The motorcyclist has been identified by the initials ABS (25), a resident of Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul. “At the scene, the motorcyclist hit a pedestrian in front of him. At the time, the victim was walking in the same direction as the motorcyclist,” Rita told reporters on Friday. Rita disclosed that the pedestrian’s initials were PDR (66), a resident of Baturetno, Banguntapan, Bantul. As a result of the impact, both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian ended up in a roadside ditch. “The pedestrian suffered a fractured right leg, lacerations on both legs and severe head injuries. The pedestrian died at Hardjolukito Air Force Hospital,” she said. Meanwhile, the motorcyclist sustained a laceration on the lip and abrasions on the right leg. The motorcycle was wrecked at the front. Rita revealed that the primary cause of the accident was the motorcyclist’s negligence. Furthermore, police also found prescription pills allegedly belonging to the motorcyclist. “Officers discovered medication around the scene and an investigation is currently underway to process the case according to applicable regulations,” she stated. Regarding whether the motorcyclist had consumed the medication, Rita could not yet confirm, noting that such a determination requires medical evidence. “There is no medical statement yet to prove it. However, officers found a yellow card, an identification card for persons with mental disorders,” she concluded.
