Motive unclear for politician's death

BONDOWOSO, East Java: Police said on Monday they had questioned around 40 witnesses over last week's murder of a politician, his wife and son in the East Java town, Bondowoso.

However, no suspects were named as the police had yet to discover any fingerprints.

Besuki Police chief Sr. Comr. Winarso ruled out robbery as being behind the deaths of Suwarjo from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), his wife, Wiwik, and son, Dodi, citing no valuables were stolen from the victims' house.

Based on initial investigations, he said, the incident could either have been politically motivated or was indicative of a family vendetta. --Antara
