Mother, son killed at home

JAKARTA (JP): A young mother and her son were killed on Wednesday afternoon in their one-room rental home in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, police and hospital officials said on Thursday.

Komariah, 21, was found dead, lying on a mat with open wounds on her neck and right side of her abdomen, while her three-year- old son laid next to her with slash wounds to his head and neck.

A forensic examination revealed the neck wounds were the cause of death. Komariah's body also had many wounds, possibly caused by hard and blunt objects.

A neighbor, Tumirah, said she heard the little boy scream, but ignored him as she was watching the country's presidential election which was broadcasted live at noon.

The victim's husband, Suyuti, a carpenter, said when he came home at 5 p.m. he found the door, the windows and curtains of his house tightly shut and that he entered the house through his neighbor's bathroom, which lies adjacent to his room.

"My house was in a mess, our clothes were scattered on the floor. Pools of blood were everywhere. But nothing was missing," Suyuti said, adding that neither he nor his wife had any enemies.

Police said they questioned two scavengers in the neighborhood, including Suyuti, his nephew and Tumirah. The investigation into the murder is still being conducted.

Police said they found a blood-stained shirt belonging to Suyuti in a bucket and took it for further examination. Suyuti said he did not know why the shirt was soaking in the bucket as it was washed and hanging on the wall when he left home in the morning.(01)
