Moscow calls for diplomatic resolution of Afghanistan-Pakistan conflict
Moscow – Russia has requested that Afghanistan and Pakistan end their mutual attacks as soon as possible and settle their disagreement through diplomatic means, according to Zamir Kabulov, Special Envoy of the Russian President for Afghanistan and Advisor to the Foreign Minister, speaking to RIA Novosti on Friday.
On Thursday evening, Afghanistan announced it had launched a large-scale military offensive operation against Pakistani forces along the border in response to bombing attacks.
“We support the early cessation of attacks on each other and the resolution of the conflict through diplomatic channels,” Kabulov stated.
Russia will also consider the possibility of providing mediation services to Pakistan and Afghanistan should either country request it, Kabulov added.
Earlier on Friday (27 February), Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that Pakistan had launched air strikes on several regions in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia provinces in Afghanistan, although there were no reported casualties.
At the same time, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Spokesman for Foreign Media Mosharraf Zaidi said that death toll among Afghan forces in border clashes with Pakistan had risen to 133 persons.
