Morning Rupiah Continues to Strengthen
Jakarta — The Indonesian rupiah strengthened on the spot market at the opening of trading on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. The local currency opened at Rp 16,851 per US dollar.
This position reflected a strengthening of 0.07 per cent compared to the previous day’s close of Rp 16,863 per dollar.
Currency movements across Asia during morning trading showed varied performance against the US dollar. The Singapore dollar recorded the strongest appreciation in Asia, rising 0.08 per cent. Conversely, the South Korean won experienced the sharpest depreciation in the region, declining 0.17 per cent.
The Japanese yen also weakened, falling 0.13 per cent, followed by the Thai baht, which depreciated 0.12 per cent. The Malaysian ringgit declined 0.09 per cent against the dollar, whilst the Philippine peso fell 0.03 per cent and the Hong Kong dollar recorded a marginal depreciation of 0.004 per cent during morning trading.
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) also opened stronger on Wednesday morning. According to Indonesia Stock Exchange data, the IHSG rose 72.585 points, or 0.98 per cent, to the level of 7,513.498. The index opened at 7,484.774, then moved higher to touch a peak of 7,527.319, with a low of 7,464.358.
Alongside the index’s strengthening, trading activity on the Indonesia Stock Exchange was notably brisk. Transaction volume reached 6.15 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 2.77 trillion across 373,802 transactions.
Share movements on the exchange were dominated by gains. A total of 455 shares rose, whilst 139 shares declined, and 127 shares remained unchanged. The market capitalisation of the Indonesia Stock Exchange increased to Rp 13.480 trillion.
