Morisette set to come on over, fingers crossed

Hera Diani, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

You oughta know that one of the most important contemporary artists is coming to town.

You oughta realize that the recent Australian Embassy blast has scared away some foreign musicians (Alicia Keys, bond) slated to perform here.

So, you oughta keep your fingers crossed, in the hope that Alanis Morissette will not cancel her upcoming performance.

The Canadian is scheduled to perform here on Oct. 3 at the plenary hall of the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta, from 7 p.m.

Brought here by Nepathya production, which earlier organized concerts by international artists like Linkin Park and Craig David, the Sunday concert is part of Morissette's World Tour 2004 to promote her latest album So Called Chaos.

Jakarta would be the next destination after Japan, as well as the only Southeast Asian city included on the tour.

News of her concert is a nice suprise after the earlier string of cancelations.

American young diva Keys called off her concert, scheduled for Oct. 5, almost immediately after the Aug. 9 blast.

Following Keys' lead was the classical crossover quartet bond, which was scheduled to perform a week after her but sent their regrets.

Several artists are also scheduled to perform in the next few months, such as Hanson in November and Norah Jones in March, but they could also cancel at any minute.

However, pop/rock icon Scorpion and British boyband Blue have gone on with their shows.

The upcoming concert would be Morissette's second here, after a 1995 gig to promote her groundbreaking debut album Jagged Little Pill (1994).

The highly acclaimed record propelled the then 20-year-old Canadian singer/songwriter to stardom, and the angsty lyric and grunge/pop/rock earned her the title of little white angry female.

Her three subsequent albums may not be as accessible or as groundbreaking as the debut album, but they still bear evidence to Morisette's great talent, smarts, strong, dramatic vocals and her brilliant way with words in her lyrics.

So be sure to catch her live here next Sunday.

Tickets for the concert start at Rp 150,000 for the rear side of festival class, Rp 225,000 for front side, and Rp 300,000 and Rp 350,000 respectively for VIP and VVIP classes. A 15 percent discount card for GUESS products is provided for every ticket purchased.
