More than 33,000 Vehicles from Jakarta Enter Semarang via Kalikangkung Toll Gate
Semarang – Vehicle traffic from Jakarta towards Central Java dominated movement at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate (GT) in Semarang during the last 24-hour monitoring period.
Based on vehicle volume data compiled from 06:00 WIB Sunday through 06:00 WIB Monday, 16 March 2026, a total of 33,608 vehicles were recorded exiting from the Jakarta direction towards Semarang via the Kalikangkung Toll Gate.
This figure was substantially higher than vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. From the same data, only 15,457 vehicles were recorded moving from Semarang towards Jakarta.
The data demonstrates high mobility from western regions towards Central Java, particularly ahead of the Eid exodus period. Police stated that the increase in vehicle numbers represents part of the normal mobility cycle of people traversing the main toll route on Java Island.
The Head of Public Relations Unit for Operation Ketupat Candi 2026, Police Commissioner Artanto, assured that traffic conditions in the field remained conducive despite the significant volume of vehicles passing through.
“Road users should always prioritise safety. Drivers are requested to ensure their physical condition and vehicle engine condition are in optimal state before beginning long journeys. Additionally, the public is expected to always comply with traffic signs, follow instructions from field personnel, and maintain safe distances between vehicles to prevent chain collisions,” Artanto said on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Increased vehicle volumes were not limited to Kalikangkung, as the Banyumanik Toll Gate, which serves as a main connector route to eastern Java, also experienced higher traffic.
At that location, 37,284 vehicles were recorded moving from Semarang towards Surabaya. Meanwhile, vehicles arriving from Surabaya towards Semarang numbered 18,323.
The high volume of vehicles heading eastward indicates that Semarang City remains one of the main transit points for holiday travellers crossing the Trans Java Toll Route.
Despite the increase in vehicle volumes at these two toll gates, traffic conditions were reported to remain relatively smooth and controlled.
Police also reminded drivers to manage fatigue during long journeys by utilising available rest areas.
