More friendly service, please!

More friendly service, please!

I am so thankful for the "Your Letters" column in The Jakarta Post. It gives consumers and citizens a voice in this crowded and tough city of Jakarta.

I have a question for the management of the MAKRO wholesale warehouses. Is it the European way for your store or is it the Asian way that makes the Jakarta MAKRO so military run, non- customer friendly and non-family friendly as well?

When customers try to return an item they are treated like criminals. If you want to check an item before buying it, which is quite normal with boxed items because they be faulty or missing parts, you must buy the item first, then check it outside of the cashier area. If found faulty or missing parts, you must go through the process of returning it and are only given credit for other purchases at MAKRO.

At other international wholesale warehouses returns are treated with a smile and all that is needed is the correct receipt and cash is given back! This wholesaler realizes that the hundreds spent by the customers at their store each month makes it worth treating them fairly and kindly and they still make good profit.

They also have eating areas in front of the store where the whole family can grab a hot dog and coke together. Families are allowed to shop together.
