Monitoring Andrie Yunus Case, 12 People Receive Threats on Social Media and Mysterious Phone Calls
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A total of 12 people have been reported to have received threats while advocating for the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus.
Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Saurlin Siagian, stated that these 12 individuals have submitted protection requests to the agency.
“We are currently assessing the 12 people. Indeed, we have received reports indicating threats to at least 12 individuals,” said Saurlin at the Komnas HAM office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
According to him, this relates to the safety aspects of the complainants.
However, Saurlin explained that the majority of the threats received are digital in nature.
“Generally, digital threats,” he said.
In addition, the victims’ contact numbers have been called mysteriously or by unknown persons (OTK).
Meanwhile, death threats are suspected not to have been received yet.
“We’ll see if there are any. It seems death threats haven’t occurred yet, but there are threats via social media,” said Saurlin.
Previously, activists and the legal team advocating for the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus submitted protection requests as human rights defenders to Komnas HAM and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
These requests were made because they have received various forms of threats and intimidation while monitoring the legal process of the case.
“This is a preventive step for us so that in the future, our advocacy work, especially during the Andrie Yunus case, receives protective measures,” said the Head of the Impunity Monitoring Division of KontraS, Jane Rosalina, when confirmed by Kompas.com on Wednesday.
