| Source: CNBC | Technology

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Mobile banking services are widely used by the public to facilitate financial transactions. Through mobile banking, customers can check transaction history, transfer funds, make purchases, and receive money from anywhere and at any time.

Mobile banking only requires a smartphone and an internet connection. This convenience has led many modern people to utilise mobile banking.

However, this technology is often targeted by thieves to drain victims’ accounts. If users are not careful, the money in their accounts can be quickly depleted.

Several fraud tactics used in mobile banking applications include data theft and phishing. To avoid this, here are some things that mobile banking users can do, as quoted from the official website of the Financial Services Authority (OJK):

Tips to Avoid Digital Banking Crime:

  1. Do not share your access code/personal identification number (PIN) with anyone.

  2. Do not write down and store your access code/SMS banking personal number in a place where it can be easily seen by others.

  3. Carefully check transactions before confirming them.

  4. After each transaction, wait a few moments to receive confirmation.

  5. For each transaction, customers will receive a notification message via SMS or email, which will be stored in their inbox. Carefully check the contents of the notification and immediately contact the bank if there are any suspicious transactions.

  6. If you suspect that someone else knows your PIN, immediately change it.

  7. If your GSM SIM card is lost, stolen, or transferred to another party, immediately notify the nearest bank branch or report it to the bank’s call centre.

  8. Be careful with applications on the internet that may be spam or malware, which could steal your personal data and misuse it later.

  9. Do not conduct internet transactions in public places such as internet cafes or on free Wi-Fi, as your data may be stolen by others on the same network.

  10. Do not forget to log out after completing transactions on internet banking.

  11. If you change your phone, make sure that all data has been deleted to prevent misuse by others who use the phone.

These are some tips to avoid having your account drained by mobile banking thieves. Hopefully, this information is useful!
