Moment 65-Metre Wall of SMPN 182 Jakarta Collapses Captured on CCTV
Jakarta, VIVA – Residents were alarmed by a viral video showing the moment the boundary wall of SMPN 182 Jakarta collapsed.
The wall, measuring 65 metres in length and 5.3 metres in height, suddenly crumbled on Sunday afternoon, 15 February 2026. In CCTV footage circulating on social media, the large wall appeared to be standing firmly before abruptly collapsing.
Building materials fell towards the school grounds, striking the car park area. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.
The Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, confirmed the event. He explained that the incident occurred at approximately 11.22 local time.
“The preliminary cause is unstable soil structure — it was landfill soil,” he told reporters on Monday, 16 February 2026.
As a result of the wall’s collapse, a water channel at the site became blocked, disrupting normal water flow. Concrete debris and building materials also covered part of the school car park.
A number of officers were immediately deployed to the location to carry out response efforts and clear the rubble. Those involved included the DKI Jakarta BPBD, the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency, the Kalibata Village urban services unit (PPSU), the community council (LMK), village officials, and local community police officers.
The clean-up operation was conducted to ensure that school activities would not be disrupted and to prevent further risks.
“Material losses are still being assessed,” he said.
