Mojtaba Khamenei's Statement After Iran Hit with New US Sanctions

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued his latest statement after the country was hit with a fresh round of sanctions by the United States. The US imposed the new sanctions as the conflict with Iran drags on and diplomatic efforts have stalled.

The series of US sanctions is intended to bring down the Tehran regime. In his latest statement, Mojtaba declared that increasing reliance on Iran’s domestic production is the key to overcoming the country’s economic problems.

Mojtaba also called for a gradual reduction of the dominant role of the US dollar in the country’s economy. He urged the government of President Masoud Pezeshkian to pay serious attention to various economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, price controls, and the regulation of goods and services markets.

“The main key to overcoming all these problems lies in increasing reliance on domestic production,” the Supreme Leader said.

To encourage economic growth, Mojtaba called for the need to increase investment and direct it towards beneficial and important sectors. The aim is to gradually reduce the important role of the dollar and place the ‘resistance economy’ policy as a top priority.

Mojtaba himself has not appeared in public since taking office in early March. This time, he stressed the importance of ensuring an adequate supply of basic necessities and special goods.

Meanwhile, the Iranian rial exchange rate slumped to a record low against the US dollar on the free market this week, breaching 2,000,000 rials per US dollar. This came as Washington imposed additional sanctions to cripple Tehran’s economy.

Mojtaba also praised President Masoud Pezeshkian’s government during the war period. This included efforts to provide goods and various services needed by the people, repair damaged essential facilities, and manage energy supplies amid restrictions and conspiracies by the ‘Zionist American’ enemy as well as the intensification of sanctions and blockades.

In his statement, Mojtaba also called for measures to maintain unity and preserve social cohesion in the country. He prohibited any action that could potentially damage social cohesion in Iran.

“Any statement that breaks morale and weakens national or public motivation, and all forms of false dichotomy — such as war or negotiation, consensus or extremism, compromise or war-mongering — which in the past have caused direct or indirect losses to our beloved people, could have similar impacts in the future,” Mojtaba said.

“Therefore, I affirm that taking any action that damages social cohesion is prohibited,” he concluded.
