New Delhi (ANTARA) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday (24/3) that he had discussed via telephone the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the interest in keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Modi wrote on the social media platform X after the conversation that he and Trump had a “beneficial exchange of views” regarding the situation in the Middle East.

“India supports de-escalation and restoring peace as soon as possible,” Modi said.

Modi opined that ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open, safe, and accessible is very important for the entire world. They also agreed to continue communication regarding efforts towards peace and stability.

Previously, the US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor confirmed the phone conversation on Tuesday between the two leaders, stating that they “discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open”.

Separately, Modi on 21 March also held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding regional developments, where he reaffirmed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and ensuring shipping lanes remain open and safe.
