Modest Muslim clothes
Modest Muslim clothes
From Pikiran Rakyat
Some women earning a living professionally as actresses and
commercial stars have frequently been seen on television, wearing
fashionable and sexy clothes.
It might be a demand of their job that these celebrities
should look charming, even though they have to reveal their body
shape, an act incompatible with religious teachings and the
prevailing ethics and norms of society.
In this transitional period, thanks to television as an agent
of change, information may reach even the remotest parts of the
country. As our people are good at imitating things, it is only
logical that whatever they learn from television will also be
easily imitated.
I witness, with a sinking feeling, why girls and women are
dressed like artists. They put on fashionable and sexy dresses at
public places, both in cities and villages.
I feel even sadder when female teenagers or adults, who
imitate their idols' fashion style, confidently wear such dresses
in public without any feelings of sin or shame or without any
fear that they will tempt men.
As Muslims, we should remember that most parts of a woman body
must not be visible. Women are magnificently beautiful and can
therefore become charmingly alluring. Women must make use of this
advantage more professionally and with dignity, without of course
abandoning religious values.
I would like to call on all relevant parties such as
celebrities, fashion designers, advertising people, television
management and women in general to maintain the ethics and norms
prevailing in religions and in the community.
I believe that all people, either men or women, love to see
elegant, modest, beautiful and broad-minded women.
