Mobil's petrochem project

SINGAPORE (DPA): Mobil appears poised to go ahead with plans
to build a multi-billion dollar petrochemical complex in
Singapore, a news report in the island republic said yesterday.

Mobil's plans include a petrochemical cracker plant able to
supply six to eight secondary or "downstream" partners, the
Business Times newspaper reported.

The plant is likely to join similar facilities being built by
Exxon and the Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore on a group
of islands off the Singapore coast, fitting in with the
government's plans for a massive petroleum/petrochemical zone in
the area.

The Mobil cracker is expected to have a capacity of some
800,000 to one million tons of ethylene and 300,000 tons of
propylene per year, roughly equal to the capacity of the Exxon
plant currently being built on a small island off Singapore's
coast.
