Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) supports the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation’s (FPTI) move to establish an investigative team to investigate allegations of sexual abuse and physical violence within the national rock climbing training centre.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring protection for athletes. He stated that athletes are a national asset who should feel safe throughout the training and competition process.

“The athletes are the nation’s children. They train with discipline, sacrifice wholeheartedly, and proudly represent the nation. They must be protected and feel safe,” said Erick in an official statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Kemenpora stated that it has read and studied the developments of the alleged case involving the head coach of the Indonesian rock climbing team, whose initials are HB.

The government expressed empathy for the athletes who are allegedly victims and their families.

The Ministry also expressed its readiness to coordinate with the federation, athletes, and families to ensure that the handling process is transparent and accountable.

In addition, Kemenpora is open to providing legal and psychological assistance to athletes who need it.

According to Kemenpora, sports are not only about achievement but also part of the character development of the younger generation and a reflection of the nation’s dignity at the national and international levels.

Therefore, any actions that violate the integrity of training and the safety of athletes cannot be tolerated.

Kemenpora also invites all Indonesian athletes, from various sports and levels, to not hesitate to report if they have experienced or are experiencing abuse, sexual violence, physical violence, or bullying. Reports can be submitted via email to pengaduan.atlet@kemenpora.go.id.

“You are not alone. We open our doors wide to listen, help, and protect all Indonesian athletes,” said Erick.

Kemenpora added that a special complaint channel and a mechanism for protection and assistance are being prepared and will be announced soon.
