Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Wamen PPPA) Veronica Tan has called for greater involvement of women in the management of social forestry.

"The phase of strengthening the economy based on social forestry is not sufficient if it only opens access to land. We need to ensure that women who work are also recorded, recognised, and have direct access to the results. Administrative system reform is key to ensuring that economic benefits are truly felt equitably," said Deputy Minister Veronica Tan in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She made the remarks during a working visit and discussion at the Komodo Bamboo Campus in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

This effort is important because women play a strategic role in household food management and forest-based production.

"Women play a strategic role in household food management and forest-based production, yet unfortunately not all of them have obtained formal recognition within institutional systems and the distribution of economic benefits," said Veronica Tan.

The discussion highlighted the synergy of three modalities in NTT, namely Mama Bambu, Women's Food Gardens, and Social Forestry, as a model for women's empowerment based on sustainable and inclusive natural resource management.

This approach is expected to strengthen village food security whilst creating a fair and sustainable economic system.

Deputy Minister Veronica Tan added that the Women's Agroforestry Garden Model could serve as an entry point for strengthening the household economy, starting from an equitable dining table, whilst simultaneously reinforcing women's position as food managers, environmental stewards, and drivers of the village economy.
