Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection urges police to thoroughly investigate case of domestic workers jumping from fourth floor of boarding house
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi has requested that law enforcement authorities thoroughly investigate the case of two female domestic workers (PRT) who jumped from the fourth floor of a boarding house owned by their employer in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
“We encourage and fully support law enforcement agencies to investigate this case professionally, transparently, and from a victim-centred perspective, so as to provide legal certainty and justice for the victims and their families,” said Minister PPPA Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta on Friday.
Her side expressed concern and sorrow over the incident that befell the two domestic workers.
“Until now, the exact cause of this case cannot be concluded. The Ministry of PPPA is also coordinating with the Women’s and Children’s Protection Unit of DKI Jakarta Province to monitor developments in the victims’ conditions as well as the ongoing legal process,” said Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi.
This case has drawn public attention, especially since it occurred a day after the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) was passed into law.
The existence of this law aims to protect domestic workers from violence and exploitation, as well as regulate basic rights such as fair wages, working hours, social security, and leave.
The PPRT Law was passed after 22 years of discussion in the DPR.
Previously, two female domestic workers jumped from the fourth floor of a boarding house in the Bendungan Hilir area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/4) night.
One victim, initialled D (18), died and was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the other, initialled R (30), is currently being treated at Mintoharjo Hospital due to a broken bone.
Central Jakarta Metro Police are still investigating the case.
Investigators have examined several witnesses, including the employer of the two victims.
