Ministry of Transportation Urges Public to Manage Return Travel Times Across Ketapang-Gilimanuk
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation has urged the public in East Java and surrounding areas to be prudent in determining travel times for the Lebaran 1447 H return flow, particularly via the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, to prevent congestion.
“We urge the public to schedule their journeys earlier or choose alternative times outside the peak return period to avoid potential congestion at Ketapang Port,” said Director General of Sea Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Muhammad Masyhud, in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
He emphasised this in light of the Ketupat Lebaran tradition in several areas, which is generally celebrated one week after Eid al-Fitr.
According to Masyhud, there is potential for a significant increase in the number of passengers and vehicles simultaneously, particularly in the Tapal Kuda region (Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Lumajang, Jember, Bondowoso, Situbondo, and Banyuwangi) as well as the Madura Islands.
“Therefore, thorough travel planning and collective awareness are needed so that the Lebaran 2026 return flow can proceed safely, smoothly, and comfortably for all sea transportation and ferry users,” he stressed.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to strive to optimise ferry transportation services on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, including adding fleets and managing operations to anticipate surges in passenger numbers.
“We are committed to providing the best service to the public. However, the smoothness of the return flow is also greatly influenced by the active role of the public in wisely managing travel times,” Masyhud stated.
It is known that PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry predicts the peak Lebaran 2026 return flow on the Java-Bali route will occur from 26 to 29 March 2026.
The main crossing via Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port is estimated to experience a surge in vehicle and passenger volume during that period.
