Ministry of Transportation: Queues of holidaymakers heading to Gilimanuk Port have cleared
Banyuwangi (ANTARA) - The queues of holidaymaker vehicles heading to Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, at Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java, have cleared, according to the Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), Aan Suhanan, in Banyuwangi on Wednesday. “Praise be to God, today at exactly 4:00 PM WITA, there are no more vehicle queues heading to Gilimanuk Port, and everything is under control and has entered the buffer zone area,” he said. Aan Suhanan emphasised that by Wednesday afternoon, there were no more queues on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk Port main road, and currently, personnel at Gilimanuk Port are processing the movement of vehicles from the buffer zone to the port. According to him, in line with the temporary closure of the crossing from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port to honour Bali’s Nyepi holy day, out of 40 operating vessels, 34 are implementing the arrive-unload-depart (TBB) pattern. With 34 operating ferry vessels under the TBB system, Aan Suhanan is optimistic that tonight, vehicles and passengers crossing from Gilimanuk to Ketapang can be accommodated. “We are implementing TBB at all docks in Ketapang Port, leaving only one dock to serve users from Ketapang,” he said. Meanwhile, the Deputy President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Yossianis Marciano, stated that this achievement is the result of synergy among all stakeholders in gradually clearing the density of Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic. “The clearing of these queues is the result of collective efforts, from optimising vessel operations and traffic management to maximising the use of the buffer zone. We ensure that services continue to run optimally so that users can be served well,” he said. PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is temporarily halting ferry services across Ketapang (Banyuwangi)-Gilimanuk (Bali) as a form of respect for the Nyepi holy day on Bali island. On Wednesday, 18 March 2026, personnel from the Ketapang Branch of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry in Banyuwangi halted crossing services at exactly 5:00 PM WIB, to be reopened on Friday, 20 March 2026, at 5:00 AM WIB. Meanwhile, from Gilimanuk Port (Bali), crossing activities will be temporarily halted starting Thursday, 19 March 2026, at 5:00 AM WITA, and reopened on Friday, 20 March, at 6:00 AM WITA.
