Ministry of Transportation Partners with PSN to Strengthen Satellite-Based Connectivity in 3TP Areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation is collaborating with PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) to strengthen satellite-based digital connectivity in underdeveloped, remote, frontier, and border areas (3TP) to enhance port services, operational efficiency, and support national data and information sovereignty.
“The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation is strengthening digital services in 3TP areas through the utilisation of satellite technology,” said Director General of Sea Transportation Muhammad Masyhud in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He emphasised this after witnessing the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Class III Korido Port Authority Office, operating in Supiori Regency, Papua, and PT PSN.
The signing was conducted by the Head of the Class III Korido Port Authority Office, Willem Thobias Fofid, and Director of PT PSN, Heru Dwi Kartono, at the Ministry of Transportation office in Jakarta.
He stated that this collaboration is a historic opportunity as it becomes the first partnership within the Directorate General of Sea Transportation (Ditjen Hubla) of the Ministry of Transportation that utilises advanced satellite technology for the digitalisation of Port Authority Offices, particularly in 3TP areas.
“The Korido Port plays a strategic role in the Pacific region as a logistics gateway and economic driver. However, geographical challenges often hinder access to information technology,” he said.
“The tangible benefits of this system are the creation of maximum operational efficiency and real-time data transparency directly from the Pacific border to the national data centre,” he added.
With this satellite integration, Masyhud is optimistic that strengthening the sovereignty of ship movement and port activity data will become safer and more integrated, while also enhancing surveillance aspects and maritime safety in eastern Indonesia.
The Head of the Class III Korido Port Authority Office, Willem Thobias Fofid, stated that this synergy is a response to the challenges of limited infrastructure in border areas.
He affirmed that this collaboration is also a concrete step towards realising synergy in port and maritime transport digitalisation services.
“The utilisation of satellite technology is expected to provide reliable digital connectivity, especially in areas that have previously been difficult to reach by terrestrial networks,” he said.
According to him, strengthening digital and data sovereignty as well as information is an important aspect. Ship movement data, port activities, and sea transport services are strategic national assets that must be managed securely, integrally, and sovereignly.
“Through this collaboration, we hope the service system will become smoother without being hampered by network issues,” he said.
Director of PT PSN, Heru Dwi Kartono, expressed commitment to supporting national data sovereignty through the satellite infrastructure owned by the company.
“This collaboration is a strategic step in supporting digital transformation, particularly in the maritime sector, and more specifically in improving the quality of port services in 3TP areas,” he said.
As a company operating in telecommunications and connectivity services, his side is optimistic that communication access is a foundational element essential for operational efficiency, maritime safety, and national data sovereignty.
“May this collaboration provide the greatest benefits for the nation and state,” he said.
