Ministry of Transportation: Eid al-Fitr Homecoming Passenger Movement in 2026 Reaches 10 Million People, Up 9.23%
The Ministry of Transportation (MoT), through the Integrated Eid Transport Command Post 2026, has recorded a cumulative total of 10,003,583 public transport passengers from H-8 (13 March 2026) to H-1 (20 March 2026). This figure represents a 9.23% increase compared to the same period in the 2025 Eid homecoming, which saw 9,158,315 passengers.
By mode of transport, rail services contributed the largest share with 2,981,945 passengers, up 13.22% from the previous year. This was followed by ferry services with 2,482,303 passengers (up 14.78%), air transport with 2,190,282 passengers (up 3.05%), land transport with 1,587,060 passengers (up 9.18%), and sea transport with 761,993 passengers.
In addition to passengers, vehicle flows have also been monitored to be increasing at various transport nodes. On H-1, 117,016 vehicles exited the Jakarta toll gates, while 66,210 entered. Overall, vehicle movements at Jabodetabek toll gates totalled 248,349 units, and outside Jabodetabek, 236,758 units.
On arterial roads, 474,454 vehicles exited the Jabodetabek area, with 360,479 entering. Meanwhile, on non-Jabodetabek arterial roads, total vehicle movements reached 491,901 units.
The implementation of the 2026 Eid Transport follows Ministerial Decree Number KM 59 of 2026 on the Coordinating Team for the Integrated Eid Transport 2026 (1447 H), with operational management continuously monitored in an integrated manner.
Daily data on H-1 (20 March 2026) shows 915,635 passenger departures. The breakdown includes rail transport with 302,823 passengers—comprising 178,006 intercity and 124,817 regional passengers—as well as air transport with 207,261 passengers, consisting of 161,598 domestic and 45,663 international passengers.
For other modes, ferry services recorded 189,804 passengers, land transport 161,054 passengers (145,340 bus and 15,714 travel passengers), and sea transport 54,693 passengers.
Regarding on-time performance (OTP), public transport performance on H-1 varied. Intercity rail recorded 98.20%, and regional rail 98.90%. Domestic air transport achieved 85.79%, and international 70.24%. Sea transport recorded 95.70%, ferries 63.19%, and land transport 72.49%.
The MoT emphasises that the Eid transport operations continue to be optimised, prioritising aspects of safety, security, and smoothness through cross-sector coordination and intensive monitoring at all transport nodes.
