Ministry of Transportation Closely Monitors Flight Services in Bali to Anticipate Surge
The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud), is conducting air transport supervision at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar from 15 to 17 March 2026 to ensure that flight services operate safely, securely, and comfortably. The head of the Bali Region IV Airport Authority Office, Cecep Kurniawan, stated that I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, under the jurisdiction of the Bali Region IV Airport Authority Office, serves as the main air gateway for the public and tourists returning home or holidaying in Bali. “Therefore, air transport supervision is essential to ensure that airlines comply with applicable regulations,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (19/3/2026). Cecep revealed that based on data from the Lebaran 2026 Transport Post Report at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, cumulatively from 13 March 2026 to 17 March 2026, there were 1,842 aircraft movements, an 8.36% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, cumulative passenger movements over the same period reached 306,749 passengers, a 3.03% increase from the previous year. According to him, this indicates that Bali (DPS) is one of the favourite destinations for the public holidaying during Lebaran 2026, especially those using aircraft. The supervision aspects carried out by the Air Transport Inspector include Flight Approval, Minimum Passenger Service Standards for Air Transport, as well as Delay Management and Flight Cancellation Handling, with supervision sampling on PT Garuda Indonesia and PT Citilink Indonesia. On the Minimum Passenger Service Standards aspect, supervision is conducted to ensure that airlines meet passenger rights through the provision of clear, accurate, and timely information, availability of service staff, and readiness of facilities and service procedures for passengers from departure to arrival processes. In the event of delays, Ditjen Hubud ensures that airlines prepare staff with full authority to make decisions on the ground. In their service, staff must act empathetically, provide convenience for passengers rescheduling travel plans, and offer compensation in accordance with applicable provisions. “The Bali Region IV Airport Authority Office will continue to coordinate with relevant parties such as the TNI, Polri, AirNav Indonesia, Immigration Office, Airport Operator, and Air Transport Business Entities to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport during the Lebaran 2026 Transport period,” Cecep concluded.
