Jakarta - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) together with the National Aviation Security Committee (KNKP) is strengthening efforts to ensure aircraft safety in order to improve national aviation security standards comprehensively and sustainably.

Director of Aviation Security of Ditjen Hubud Kemenhub, Sigit Hani Hadiyanto, stated that they had held a meeting with KNKP titled “Strengthening Aircraft Security for National Aviation Security Compliance”.

“This meeting serves as a strategic forum in strengthening national aviation security standards and implementation, particularly in the aspect of aircraft protection,” said Sigit in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Sigit conveyed that the hybrid meeting was attended directly by stakeholders from Airport Authority Offices Regions I-V, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, national and foreign airlines, as well as ground handling companies.

According to him, the meeting became an important momentum to strengthen collaboration and ensure the implementation of aircraft security in accordance with national and international standards.

Furthermore, he said that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has proposed the 19th amendment to Annex 17.

The amendment covers changes to the definition of transfer and transit passengers and baggage, strengthening human factors aspects, as well as standards for aircraft security checks and searches.

“Indonesia has expressed agreement on these changes and is currently conducting intensive discussions regarding the revision of Minister of Transportation Decree Number KM 39 of 2024 on the National Aviation Security Programme,” he explained.

Sigit mentioned that in the first KNKP meeting, discussions included steps for aircraft security, both on the ground and during flight, presented by regulators and industry players, including Garuda Indonesia and Cathay Pacific Indonesia airlines, as well as ground handling companies such as PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta and PT Gapura Angkasa.

In addition, Sigit also highlighted the readiness of aviation security in supporting the implementation of the 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE Hajj pilgrimage.

Since the departure of the first batch on 22 April 2026, the Directorate of Aviation Security of Ditjen Hubud has conducted monitoring at several Hajj embarkation points, covering passenger and baggage checks, access control, aircraft protection, to boarding and transportation processes for pilgrims.

Supervision is not only on security aspects but also air facilitation (FAL) involving cross-agency such as Health Quarantine, Immigration, Customs, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, to ensure the pilgrims’ journey runs safely, comfortably, and in accordance with standards.

As a follow-up, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will also prepare special regulations related to Hajj aviation security arrangements.

Sigit hopes that the results of discussions in the first KNKP of 2026 can become lessons learned and strategic inputs in perfecting national aviation security policies, including the revision of KM 39 of 2024 which is currently in process.

“Synergy and commitment from all stakeholders are key in maintaining national aviation security and safety,” said Sigit.
