Ministry of Transportation Adjusts WFH Scheme, Public Transport Services Remain Normal
JAKARTA - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has stated that the Ministry of Transportation is adjusting the government’s work-from-home (WFH) policy. The adjustment considers the ministry’s direct role in public transport services. Dudy explained that the government, through the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB), provides flexibility to ministries and agencies in arranging work schemes. The WFH policy remains set for every Friday. “If the Ministry of PAN-RB gives leeway for each ministry and agency to arrange. But what is regulated by the government is that Friday is WFH. We have modified it slightly,” Dudy said in Jakarta on Thursday night (9 April 2026). “Because we serve public transport, we do not take Friday off. But for the days we do come in, we reduce them each day,” he clarified. The implemented scheme involves reducing the number of employees coming to the office each day. Around 40 percent of employees work in the office on a rotating basis. “The scheme applied is only around 40 percent of employees entering the office each day on rotation. At our central office, there are approximately 5,000 people. So, 40 percent of 5,000 means 2,000,” he said. Dudy noted that this policy supports energy-saving efforts. Reducing employee mobility is expected to curb fuel oil consumption and air pollution. “The hope is that we can help the government, especially in Jakarta, so that fuel consumption is not too high. It can also reduce pollution,” he stated. “Because we serve transport, we cannot take Friday off either,” he added. “So, we implement it so that today, for example, 40 percent, rotating. But at minimum, we reduce it each day,” he concluded. WFH for civil servants officially applies starting Friday (10 April 2026). This policy is part of efficiency measures amid global turbulence. “WFH for civil servants in central and regional agencies is carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto on Tuesday (31 March 2026).
