Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) has revealed that numerous buses are unroadworthy during the exodus and return period for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H in 2026. The Ministry’s Director General of Land Transport, Aan Suhanan, stated that approximately 5,000 buses have failed roadworthiness inspections, or ramp checks. This figure emerged from ramp check processes conducted on over 40,000 buses across Indonesia, encompassing both regular and tourism-oriented coaches.

The ramp check process has been conducted at Category A terminals, bus depots, rest areas, and motorway exit points ahead of Eid 2026.

“For public transport, particularly buses, we conduct vehicle roadworthiness inspections. To date, we have ramp checked over 40,000 buses, and more than 5,000 have been found unroadworthy,” Aan stated during a press conference at a media event on 13 March 2026.

The ministry has consequently appealed to the public not to board unroadworthy buses, as they pose a danger to Eid holiday travel.

“We ask the public not to use unroadworthy vehicles,” Aan added.

Aan further noted that members of the public who wish to verify the roadworthiness of buses—whether intercity-inter-provincial (AKAP), intercity-intra-provincial (AKDP), or tourism coaches—can check the MitraDarat application, which is the land transport hub application released by the Ministry of Transport.

“For the public who wish to travel by bus during the holiday exodus and want to know whether a bus is roadworthy, they can check the MitraDarat application, which contains a bus roadworthiness option. Users can determine whether a bus has undergone ramp checks and passed roadworthiness tests, enabling the public to travel safely,” he explained.
