Ahead of the Idul Adha long weekend, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation urged public transport operators and the public to prioritise safety and comply with traffic rules during travel. Mobility along roads and transport nodes is predicted to rise, with peak outbound travel forecast for 26 May 2026 and return flow on 1 June 2026. According to Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan, the agency continues to take measures to ensure safety and smooth traffic, especially during the long holiday period, through cross-ministerial coordination, deployment of personnel at critical points, enhanced supervision, and public education. ‘We are always striving to guarantee public safety, one of which is through increased supervision of public transport or ramp checks at terminals and bus pools, as well as road safety campaigns. For ramp checks, we routinely conduct them at 115 Type A terminals (TTA). From 1 January to 15 May 2026, we have conducted more than 1.4 million bus AKAP inspections departing from TTA,’ Aan said on Friday (22/5/2026). Checks can be accessed via the Mitra Darat app to obtain information on vehicle fitness and to determine whether buses have passed ramp checks via stickers placed on the front windscreen as evidence of roadworthiness. For private vehicle users, preparations should be thorough. Aan said people should ensure the vehicle is in prime condition and the driver is healthy. ‘It is important for the public to properly prepare for travel if using private vehicles, including regular maintenance. Then, always plan the route from the outset and ensure the driver is fully healthy and not sleep-deprived,’ he said. ‘Private vehicle users must always be disciplined, such as obeying applicable rules, wearing seat belts, using nationally standard helmets, and complying with speed limits and adjusting speed to weather and road conditions,’ he added. Aan emphasised the importance of synergy and coordination among stakeholders to face mobility rises during the long holiday. As part of anticipatory measures for crossing mobility surges, ASDP Indonesia Ferry has prepared 75 vessels to support smooth Merak-Bakauheni crossings and mitigate adverse weather. To anticipate queues due to truck operations at Ketapang Port, SOPs and rapid-response steps have been prepared for emergencies or special field conditions. Not only from the government, compliance and support from all road users, whether the public or operators and crew of public transport, are key to reducing traffic accidents when mobility rises during the long holiday period.
