Jakarta — The Ministry of Transport has called on freight transport operators, vehicle owners and drivers to comply with the operational restriction policy for freight vehicles with three or more axles as outlined in a Joint Decree (SKB).

“Based on the SKB, trucks with three or more axles are prohibited from using toll and non-toll roads during the Ramadan homecoming transport period from 13 March 2026 at 12:00 local time until 29 March 2026 at 24:00 local time,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that the SKB was issued by the Ministry of Transport, the National Police’s Traffic Directorate and the Ministry of Public Works. The freight vehicle restriction applies to cargo vehicles with three or more axles, cargo vehicles with trailers, articulated lorries, and cargo vehicles carrying mining products, mineral extractives and building materials.

The Minister explained that the restriction was implemented to create safer conditions for millions of people undertaking homecoming journeys, ensuring they travel more safely, securely, smoothly and comfortably.

“It should be remembered that only certain freight vehicles are exempt, such as those carrying fuel, basic food commodities, fertiliser, livestock, and other vital necessities,” the Minister emphasised.

If not in this category, the Minister continued, three-axle and above trucks should not operate during the restriction period.

“Especially as this has become a serious priority for President Prabowo Subianto to provide the best service to the public during Ramadan transport,” the Minister said.

The Minister noted that three-axle and above trucks were still found operating on toll roads during the 2026 Ramadan transport period. He warned that this policy must be obeyed for traffic safety and fluidity.

During a review from Saturday 13 March in the evening to Sunday 15 March in the early hours, the Minister stopped several logistics vehicles that did not comply with regulations for inspection.

The Minister provided direct education and explanation to drivers regarding the truck operational restriction rules established by the government.

“For violators, we are collaborating with the National Police’s Traffic Directorate to impose strict penalties. This is being done in the interest of safety and humanitarian concerns for people returning to their hometowns to celebrate Ramadan,” said Dudy.

The Minister called on all parties to support the safety and smooth operation of Ramadan transport.

He emphasised that without such traffic management and restrictions, there is potential for severe congestion that would cause far greater economic losses, including distribution delays.
